From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team access areas they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the family.
This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
From episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
