Fall Classic Final Game Draws 51M Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51M spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 different languages.
